To Be Released Across All Platforms on June 5

Set against the broader backdrop of China's industrialization, the documentary takes as its main thread Shanghai's industrial development and its enduring commitment to serving national strategies. It weaves together the brilliant fragments of Shanghai's manufacturing history, showcasing the grand vision of Chinese industry over the past century — from its nascent beginnings to its rise to strength, and its pioneering spirit in embracing the future.

Shanghai is not only the "cradle" of Chinese industry, but also a trailblazer in industrial progress. Over more than a century of development, countless "world firsts" and "China firsts" were born on this fertile industrial soil. The veteran experts, model workers, and master craftsmen who witnessed these milestone events represent the most vivid embodiment of Shanghai's industrial spirit — "craftsmanship with ambition."

The documentary production team interviewed and filmed nearly one hundred industrial professionals who experienced key periods in Shanghai's manufacturing development — among them, participants in the development of China's first 6,000 kW steam turbine, witnesses to the development of the world's first double-water inner-cooled generator, builders of the 10,000-ton hydraulic press, planners of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, and pioneers who witnessed the rise of industrial bases, the deepening of reform and opening-up, and the global expansion of China's advanced manufacturing industry. For the making of this documentary, Lin Zongtang, now over 100 years old and the deputy chief designer of New China's first 10,000-ton hydraulic press, made a special trip from Beijing to Shanghai, where he stood for a long time before the very press he had helped to build.

They said: "No matter how much time passes, I will always be proud of my identity as a worker." They said: "The simplest methods and the most conscientious spirit — that is what it means to be meticulous." They said: "Electric power is the foundation of industrial development. Only when the power plants turn can China's industry truly get moving." In these plain words of veteran industrial workers lie wisdom, courage, and perseverance. "Century of Transmission" — the driving force behind China's industrial development over the past hundred years comes not only from machinery, but from spirit and dreams.

Based on this understanding, the documentary "Century of Transmission" takes Shanghai Electric as a living sample, aiming to retrieve those industrial memories worth preserving forever, document the spiritual legacy of the Shanghai working class in serving the nation, chronicle the history of Shanghai's industry, and champion the spirit of Chinese industry. It seeks to pass on the industrial spirit of Shanghai from generation to generation, inspire and guide the younger generation, and provide a continuous source of internal momentum for accelerating the development of new quality productive forces.

The documentary will premiere on Dragon TV at 9:00 AM on June 5, and will also be simultaneously broadcast on the new media platforms of Shanghai's mainstream media outlets, as well as on various commercial websites and platforms including Bilibili. A series of short videos under the "Century of Transmission" banner will subsequently be released across the above platforms.
